Anyone watching The Pacific? This had no chance to succeed. Unlike the big unit action in Europe, the Pacific war does not lend itself to drama. No continuity, no shining moments, just brutal isolated actions culminating in a crescendo of death on island after island. Also, this was not a pure ground war like Europe, you can tell the tale of a few marines, disconnected from the whole, and still miss the reality. This was a naval war more than anything. This show was way too ambitious. This story cannot be done except piecemeal, only then can it be seen as a whole. By definition there can be no central hero or set of heros to drive a story as was done with Band of Brothers.

A shame, I have studied it a lot, and still it is misunderstood everywhere.
