Germans have a great aversion towards anything resembling a surveillance state, recall that all of East Germany was probably the world’s most advanced surveillance state until 1989…that causes them to have a rather different and more approving view of Snowden’s actions.
It’s also a lot easier to have positive views of someone who committed espionage when they didn’t commit espionage against you.
I mean, fuck. Duh. Just because the Germans are our allies (and they are) doesn’t mean we should feel the same way about these international actors.
