Democrats in America are evenly divided on the question of whether George W. Bush knew about the 9/11 terrorist attacks in advance. Thirty-five percent (35%) of Democrats believe he did know, 39% say he did not know, and 26% are not sure.
True enough, but the Democrats have been the preferred party of kooks at least since the late 19th century and the bloviating creationist William Jennings Bryan. It is the party of resentment and envy, of “the man” keeping us down through some unfair advantage, of magical thinking and work-free solutions. From Bryan’s Silver Crusade through Woodrow Wilson’s addle-brained racist idealism, FDR’s crypto-socialism, and LBJ’s Great Society, the rejection of reality has been their stock in trade.
Kookery is natural for them, as any visit to a major Dem event will illustrate. The GOP must distinguish itself from this or lose its identity.
