I’ve been cussed out by both parties when a guy hit his girlfriend in front of my building. Certainly gave me a visceral understanding for why cops hate domestic violence calls— the warring couple suddenly unites again against the intruder.
In that instance it was also the woman who was a lot more vicious to me. lol.

I’ve seen this happen. Once in town I saw an older man try to intervene to protect a girl from an attack by the guy who was accompaning her. They both turned on the poor guy and kicked him to the ground - the girl was screaming at him. Fortunately it was Saturday night and in the centre of town, and the police were on hand to break it up right away, otherwise the result could have been much worse.
