The end result of 40 years of Republican assault on public education.
I have worked with two history teachers who taught entire units on world geography. I remember listening to their students bewailing the amount of work those teachers gave them, and the difficulty of the exams. I felt for them, because my HS history teachers did the same thing. I was pretty good with countries and capitals, but rivers and lakes were my downfall.
Those teachers treated geography as an important foundation of history and culture. If you donβt know where something is, how can you understand why it is important?
I figure those people would have trouble finding their home state on a map of the USA, too.
