Scientist from UM and NOAA notices how quickly Ian is becoming more symmetrical:
Grammar pedantry: while “symmetrize” is a verb, it is a transitive verb. As in “A symmetrizes B”. As Ian is becoming more symmetrical, that is how to describe it - using the verb “become”. As in “becoming symmetrical quickly” instead of “symmetrizing quickly.”
Wiktionary, which captures modern trends faster than “authoritative” mammoth dictionaries, allows both forms.
