Defensive tunnel? Defending against what? What kind of claptrap is that? Hamas digs tunnels for two purposes - obtaining weapons and equipment (or profiting from the contraband being brought into Gaza), or to attack Israel.

They aren’t defensive tunnels. They were designed to breach Israel’s security and attack Israel, with the intent of either killing Israelis or kidnapping them to be used as ransom to release Palestinian terrorists from Israeli jails.
