It’s tough though. There is a legitimate point at which progressives have to withhold their votes from a too-centrist candidate, otherwise there’s no leverage whatsoever.

Having said that, yes, a Nader vote was with hindsight a bad idea, and a non-Clinton vote this year would be similarly bad.

We call those the primaries.

Edit: People get it backwards. Withholding your vote in the general election doesn’t make officials worry about you. That makes those who vote count more.

You always vote in the general elections, that way they are dependent on you getting into the office. Then you really scare them in the primaries.

This is the one lesson we should be taking from the Tea Party.
