Ah, ok. It’s a very complicated issue. Some of those homes were legally sold a couple generations ago. Some were abandoned by people who refused to live under a Jewish Democracy. Some people left with the expectation that Muslim Armies would sweep through and they’d come back and claim it all.
You couldn’t go to the house that your grandfather was born in and claim it was yours just like somebody couldn’t lay claim to your house because their grandfather was born there.
Much of the land was acquired legally but there are some grey areas. Without knowing her claim to the house I couldn’t really pass judgement but this is the whole issue behind the “right to return” that Palestinians insist on. They want to reclaim property that they sold, abandoned or were pushed out of a very long time ago.
