Senior prank: Prom won’t include cavity searches, principal assures

A senior prank had officials at St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights fielding phone calls from parents concerned that their sons and daughters might receive body-cavity searches prior to prom.

Someone using St. Viator’s 50th-anniversary stationery sent letters to the homes of all seniors, claiming they would be subject to cavity searches before the dance and the after-prom cruise because students in past years had smuggled in “illicit materials.”

Though the school’s switchboard lit up, St. Viator’s president, the Rev. Mick Egan, said “the great majority of our parents knew immediately this was a prank.”
