School Bus Wreck Closes Section of I-64

A school bus was involved in an accident on Interstate 64 Eastbound, near Exit 120.

No children were on a school bus at the time of the accident. The driver of the bus was not hurt.

Ablemarle County School Spokesman Phil Giarmaita said the school bus was on the way to Monticello High School to pick up students. A replacement bus has been sent to the school, so the kids likely won’t be late getting home.

Giarmaita tells the Newsplex that from what he understands, a vehicle was swerving to avoid hitting another car when it hit the bus.

According to someone who was on scene last night the car who caused the accident was a young girl texting. There were cars getting off the exit and it was backed up in to the right lane of 64. This happens every day. When she looked up it was too late and she hit the bus. Thankfully it was empty and nobody got hurt.
