re: #274 Mike Lamb

I posted in a different thread that I’ve broken one of my orbital bones taking a baseball to the face. Blood was streaming out my nose. Complete vision loss in the eye. I imagine that if this was indeed a “bone crunching” punch, as has been asserted, that the impact was at least in the neighborhood of what happened when the baseball hit me.

Was I ambulatory after taking the blow? Sure. But I certainly didn’t forget that I had been hit and I certainly knew that I had a pretty significant injury. There is no way that he would’ve been able to ignore the issue.

And swelling? When my mom came to see me (I was in college at the time), she walked into my room from my “bad side”. She didn’t even recognize me.

Oh, to add, I was ultimately released—after about 4-5 hours, which included a cat scan for a concussion; a visit from an eye specialist; and other assorted treatments. I still went back to the dorm and vomited blood that night. I had to sleep upright to reduce swelling, then had a return visit to the doc to check for a detached retina, double vision, etc.

Point being—this isn’t the type of injury that entails a quickie check up and off you go. It’s an ordeal.

Thanks for your information. It seems important that dealing such a blow with a fist would leave tell tale injuries on the hand as well——-something the autopsy did not find present. It is possible, however that the car door bumped Wilson’s face. Judging from how he looked in the video immediately following the shooting spree, there could have been no significant injury. He was not bleeding and he did not even touch his face or eye area. The other officer was also not acting like, “Hey, let me check out your face——it looks like you have an injury….”
