Braintree RMV worker allegedly took bribes for issuing licenses

A 48-year-old Brockton woman who worked at the Braintree branch of the Registry of Motor Vehicles was arrested today for allegedly taking bribes to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants, federal and state law enforcement officials said.

Janice Washington faces federal identity theft charges, the officials said in a statement. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine, the officials said.

Washington was identified after a six-month investigation, said the officials from the US attorney’s office, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, US Social Security Administration, and Massachusetts State Police.
