I like Vietnamese food (at least the version we get in the west, which I suspect is rather upscale considering the normal diet in Vietnam). And Thai. And Japanese (as long as it’s not squirming on the plate…)

Thai.. yum yum.

I was in China in 2000 with my friend who was adopting. It was really hard to find an authentic restaurant. We were discouraged from going off on our own outside of walking distance. Everything near the hotels were Americanized. Although I will say, that hotel chef made the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted. I wouldn’t normally rave about something like that, but they were truly amazing. Maybe s/he added cream? Something. And we got dim sum at breakfast and lunch, but is that really Chinese? I thought it was Japanese. Maybe both.

We found one restaurant, we called the “bug restaurant”. As you walked in, there were containers with different types of… critters. Some you ate and some they fed to the ones you ate. Not always easy to tell which was which. I think we ended up with chicken, rice and veggies :)
