Just got off the phone with him. He is in a bar having a drink with his sister. He rarely drinks, and he thinks his sister is crazy. These are all very bad signs… He is planning a trip in a few weeks; I hope he goes and I hope he comes back. I intend to spend time with him at that point. The challenge is finding a balance where he feels cared for without being smothered.

If I were terminal I’d have a drink with my crazy sister.

That may be what it would take.
