The far left sees identity politics as being a distraction & directly antithetical to their realpolitik by turning off white racist voters who they think would otherwise be amenable to their socialist platform. The only difference between them and the right is how much effort the put into overtly legitimizing (versus covertly condoning) the racism of the white voters they’re courting.

Yeah Frank, I think you’re right about this. They really think that if the left “shut up” about “identity politics” that those voters would just vote for us and that’s just wrong. I saw them always point to how Bernie did in polls and I always felt like screaming that the right hadn’t started attacking Sanders yet. It’s well to remember that Dukakis was doing fine against H.W. Bush until he debated him. TBH, it really frustrates me because we do need to be listening to POC and not dismisisng them. I still remember how Sanders cavalierly dismissed as young woman who wanted to be the second Latina senator or something like that. I really hope Sanders is a non-factor in 2020. I think he’s poisoned the left.
