If there are a bunch of people screaming at those churches, then it’s a pretty clear signal to the “run of the mill sickos” that they’ve got free targets. Or at least, it creates the appearance that they do. In the end, it doesn’t really matter what the arsonist was personally thinking. Whether he’s an anti-Islamist, a firebug or whatever, the climate created by the anti-Islamists is what created the opening for the act.

In the same manner, the cacaphony of hate directed at Sarah Palin was probably the reason for her church getting burned. When shouting starts, thinking ceases.
