Every cop being complicit or members? No - but I’d wager that a very significant number were members, and a majority of those in rural areas were also members, or at the very least, “Klan-friendly”. The part of the country that I grew up in was *VERY* KKK-friendly up until the mid-late 70s, and a majority of them IN FREAKING 1991 voted for David Duke to be Governor. I’ve relayed this story before, but that was one of the primary reasons that I moved out of state.
