I thought public opinion and backlash was supposed to keep people from doing racist things. Apparently it keeps them from apologizing for them.

Hey, it works really well! Just look at any comment thread on Yahoo, and you’ll see how quickly the public shaming from all the other commenters kicks in, and just how fast it gets racists to apologize.
