I just had my dog Penny euthanized, it was peaceful. She just stopped breathing and that was it. The cancer moved incredibly fast, all but destroyed her lungs in just a couple of months. It got to the point where she was just barely getting enough oxygen into her blood to function.

Had her for 10 years, got her as an abused stray.
