How exactly do the troops lose again? From my understanding, most of the line troops really didn’t care for the General’s revised ROE.

That’s what is confusing me about this whole issue. If McChrystal was simple executing RoE mandated from above, I could see the right “siding” with him after his borderline insubordination, but from what I understand, the RoE in place in Afghanistan right now is almost entirely of McChrystal’s invention. It has to be acute chronic ODS at work here.
