Deranged Talking Points Hatching on Twitter

Wingnuts • Views: 2,762

The #tcot (Top Conservatives On Twitter) feed on Twitter can be fascinating; it’s a glimpse into the raw unedited id of the modern right wing, and you can often see wingnut talking points and conspiracy theories emerging from this roiling subconscious primordial stew before they spread to the wingnut blogosphere and then to Fox News.

Following the ouster of General Stanley McChrystal, the #tcot crowd is all taking the side of McChrystal, of course, against President Obama. Here are some of the talking points and conspiracies you can expect the right wing to adopt and promote in the near future:

• McChrystal was fired because Obama’s ego was injured, or because McChrystal “told the truth.” McChrystal’s blatant insubordination, which would normally be a huge factor in the #tcot authoritarian world view, is simply ignored.

• Obama once criticized Gen. Petraeus. (Don’t worry, they’ll find some way to make that relevant.)

• Obama put Gen. Petraeus in charge to keep him out of the 2012 presidential election.

And then we have the crazier element, who are posting comments like this:

So does this mean McChrystal is free to lead a military coup and kick out the Obama admin now?

Boss, small typo:

• Obama put McChrystal in charge to keep him out of the 2012 presidential election.

The General was dismissed because he violated article 88 of the UCMJ.

Period.

End of Line.

Obama hates the military because they see through his anti-American-ness. Bush loved the military. He even nearly served in it once.

What really scares me is the massive amount of stupid in America at the moment, from both parties. We keep electing, on both sides, the worst people this country has to offer. Liars and crooks every single one of them, from town selectmen to POTUS.
Not one of them can be trusted, because they are all the same when it comes down to it. Politicians.

20 lawhawk  Wed, Jun 23, 2010 11:47:30am

Rep. Barton's office is now trying to spin out of his claim that "he won". A staffer supposedly made the posting and link without Barton's knowledge.

The tweet would seem to suggest that Barton's office is promoting an article supporting his controversial remark.

Barton's account deleted the tweet shortly afterward.

Barton's communications director, Sean Brown, acknowledged posting the tweet on Wednesday. He said Barton was unaware of the tweet.

"Without thinking about it much, I added a headline from one of the daily news clips to a website that is, in turn, linked to the congressman’s Twitter account," he said. "I won’t be doing that again."

Sure he wont... until he does because it suits him and his boss fine.

That's what is confusing me about this whole issue. If McChrystal was simple executing RoE mandated from above, I could see the right "siding" with him after his borderline insubordination, but from what I understand, the RoE in place in Afghanistan right now is almost entirely of McChrystal's invention. It has to be acute chronic ODS at work here.

The current doctrine in the field is all McChrystal's, set in place to promote the guidelines given to him by Obama. He's the one who has set up the ROE which have led to an increase in US and NATO casualties over the last few months.

Actually, we don't. Mixed in with the knaves and fools there are quite a few good men, some even from both parties, and there are others who are ordinary workhorses who get up and try to deal with the business of the country and put out the fires.

Those of you from, say, Illinois won't believe this, but there are comparatively honest state governments all over the place. Consider, say, Minnesota. Back and forth, Democrat and Republican, they go. Maybe Franken didn't win the senatorial race without some thumbs in the scale, but on the whole, MN isn't a cesspit of corruption. Not even close.

Actually the "Betray-Us" ad seriously backfired on MoveOn.org. It went way too far, and they lost a lot of their support among liberals because of it.

I agree, and the GOP was politically savvy to make it into a national political issue where Congressional Democrats were forced to comment on a PAC's advertising. It would be great to see Dems successfully do the same -- forcing the GOP to own or repudiate Right Wing PAC ads and positions -- but they just aren't as proficient at the manufactured outrage game.

I think Glenn is going to be weepy for the next few days;

There are remarkable books whose ingenuity and formal daring put them beyond the range of conventional appraisal. There are also books lamentably difficult to assess because their utter disregard for style, literate narrative exposition and the entertainment quotient requisite in popular fiction seems more a result of artless ignorance than authorial intention.

"The Overton Window: A Thriller," a first novel by radio talk-show host and Fox News personality Glenn Beck, squats immovably in that latter category. Suffice to say that, the subtitle notwithstanding, there is nothing even remotely thrilling about this didactic, discursive — sporadically incoherent — novel. The image of a train wreck comes quickly to mind, though this book actually has more the character — and all of the excitement — of a lurching, low-speed derailment halfway out of the station.

What is coming out of that well is a range of hydrocarbons, from the simplest Methane (one carbon atom) all the way up to complex organic molecules that could have up to 100 or so carbon atoms.

Lighter hydrocarbons of course can evaporate in normal air temps and pressure - go pour out some gasoline (mostly decane - 10 carbon atoms).

Are there enough of these lighter hydrocarbons in the air around southern LA to precipitate out? Good question - but there are also plenty of refineries in the area and I noticed that when I visited NOLA a couple of times, and once took a wrong turn out of the airport and ended up down south by some large petrochemical plants, that my nose could immediately tell the air was thick with all sorts of chemicals.

New York (CNN) -- On Monday morning, New York City added a new sound to its usual cacophony of honking cars and taxis, groaning buses, and screeching subways: 5,280 tinkling piano keys.

In a collaboration between artist Luke Jerram and charitable organization Sing for Hope, 60 newly refurbished pianos were installed in public spaces throughout the city's five boroughs. "Play Me, I'm Yours," the brightly colored instruments announce provocatively.

The United States has again called upon General David Petraeus during crisis. There have been other times, the most remarkable being in January 2007 when we were on the cusp of losing the war in Iraq. The chances against success were increasingly remote. I was there through the entire surge, and more, and saw the remarkable transformation under command of General Petraeus and due to the incredible efforts of our armed forces and civilian counterparts. No book that I have read, including the one that I wrote, has fully conveyed the magnitude of those days. You simply had to be there.

Here we are again. This time on the cusp of losing the war in Afghanistan. The situation is worse than ever before. Again, the United States has asked General David Petraeus to step into a situation that seems hopeless to many people. It is not hopeless, just extremely bad. All is not lost, just nearly lost. Our people can turn this war around.

I didn't know either... what's up, and how is she?

They say the worst bacteria of all live in the human mouth.

So, back on Saturday, my mom and dad were going to a church meeting and she tripped on an uneven spot in Baltimore's ancient concrete sidewalks and did a literal face-plant.

She looks like someone took a hammer to her. And she was picking gravel out of her teeth on the way to the ER.

So, two days go by and she wakes up with a swollen right wrist, tingling, numbness, and major pain.

Turns out, if you injure your mouth even to the extent of a minor gum wound, the bugs go straight from there to whatever part of your body is weakest and settle in for a feast.

They had to induce a nerve-block at her shoulder to stop the pain.

But now she's feeling better.

That's it in a nutshell.

re: #151 Walter L. Newton

"Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who infamously resigned in disgrace after he was outed as Client No. 9, will have his second act as a co-host of a primetime news program on CNN."

Why not... if the wacky right can end up on Fox, why not the loony left on CNN... works for me.

What is Love Client No. 9 going to be reporting on?

You have to be kidding... Obama picked "betray us" to fill that spot... how does that work out for you "MoveOn.org?"

I'm sure they're sobbing into their enormous pillows.

re: #53 Charles

Actually the "Betray-Us" ad seriously backfired on MoveOn.org. It went way too far, and they lost a lot of their support among liberals because of it.

Now MoveOn removed the "Betray Us” Page. The world would be a better place without George Soros and Rupert Murdoch.
