However, “sic semper tyrannis” is also Virginia’s state motto (which, IIRC, the Zimmermans hail from) long before Booth uttered that phrase at Ford’s Theater and it’s also the city motto of Allentown, PA.

Still, most Americans associate it with Booth.

It’s older than that. Booth associated the phrase with the assassination of Caesar, even though nobody’s been able to prove Brutus ever actually said it.
