It didn’t work because the public didn’t want it. It’s rally a very good idea. A coin has a much better shelf life than currency, it’s actually saves the government (us) money in production costs.

High value coinage has been used in Europe for ages. It’s interesting that we have just started to use the fancy security measures in our currency. They had most of this in Europe for years.

It’s been going on for years. But Iran and Syria have been using their state currency presses to make nearly perfect US $100 bills. For awhile in the 90’s a large percentage of US$100 bills in international use where from this source, there was enough of them to depress the value of the dollar.

The change to the bill slowed the problem.
