It doesn’t work that way, unfortunately. Despiite the oft-repeated mantra of “in the best interest of the child”, some courts seem to believe that the parent’s rights just as important. Makes me fucking sick. I spent about $85,000.00 on my divorce, employed firms in two different states, a P.I. and a trip to the appellate court at one point to force a court to recognize that the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act really was the law.

I’m so sorry you went through that. The system seems so messed up, in so many ways— and the only time the media every pays attention is when there’s a tragedy again, like this case.
But nothing ever seems to change, and soon it will be business as usual.
It’s the good parents like you and soxfan4life who wind up suffering.
And the kids.
