umm,,, errr,,, nobody will be “laid off”
IF there is a shutdown they will be furloughed, and as soon as an agreement is reached will be back at work paid retroactively
Lets see,,, don’t go to work and STILL get paid,, My company tells me thats a vacation!
Do you honestly think the work they would normally be doing during this time will do itself? They will have to pay back pay, and pay overtime to catch up on the backlog. Meanwhile, these employees will not be paid (retroactively) until the government is back up and running. So, not only will this increase the cost of government, but it will interrupt services for millions of people, and the pay for hundreds of thousands for an indefinite period of time.
Shutting the government down increases the cost of government, because the work these agencies do has to be done, late or not. Do you understand this?
