It’s very slow going for recovery crews because of the shoring up and inspection required in the compromised structure.
Recovery of human remains in this situation is often a matter of literally sifting through ashes.

After 9/11, everyone with missing family from the WTC was asked to bring in their loved one’s hairbrush, toothbrush, bloody tissues if he’d had a shaving accident that morning… and parents and offspring of the missing gave their own DNA samples. None of the remains could be ID’d by just looking at them. It’s a very slow process.
