Why didnāt they check there? Again, the World-Herald is Republican-aligned, so is the Wall Street Journal.
As for voters, how many voters are actually political junkies who check those sorts of things? And for those who are, Daily Kos misreported it using the same articles. The political junkies who read there were also mislead, because Kos did not use Journalism 101 either.
As noted in The Nation article, the initial push against Mello was from a woman in Tennessee whoād never heard of him until the faulty articles came out. (āFaultyā is the most charitable words Iāll use to describe them.)
The Nation actually checked his record. Planned Parenthood actually gave him a 100% rating (which didnāt seem to make it into anyoneās reporting either). Iām not of the opinion that Planned Parenthood is anti-choice.
Iāve tried to bail on this a couple times already. Iāll leave The Nation link again, in case it wasnāt read before, on how he was actually torpedoed from outside the state.
Youāre making it sound like this was a gigantic conspiracy by Republicans at this Omaha Newspaper and the WSJ and Democratic activists from outside the state to deny him the election. Canāt you just concede that the voters had some obligation to actually research? Iām sorry but if the Dem nominee was regarded as weak on a key issue to me, Iād look into it any way I could to verify its accuracy. And you know what? Iāve actually done that since Tim Kaine was characterized as being anti-abortion when he first ran for state wide office. And I do see Melloās 100% PP rating. I also see that the head of NARAL criticized him and that he also had a 0% from PP other years.
