re: #292 Flaming Dumpster

The move from AGW to Climate Change was initiated by Frank Luntz in a 2003 memo to the Bush administration suggesting they change their rhetoric to the less threatening Climate Change.

In fact, Climate Change predates AGW.

You see, the info you have is wrong.

Sure does. Back in the 60’s and 70”s, scientific community was worried about significant Climate Change, a coming Ice Age - Global Cooling. The 1957 International Geophysical Year - an international effort to study the earch - observed that considerably more ice was building up on the South Polar Cap versus the North Polar Cap. One line of thinking was that the earth would become imbalanced due to the large difference in ice volume and weight between the poles, and one possible result was a shift in the earth’s axis.

A scientist, John White, wrote a book published in 1980 (which I read years ago) which discussed this possibility based on the scientific observations first begin with the 1957-1958 IGY plus some mythology and legends thrown in as well. The book was given serious consideration because of the author’s credentials. So - from my perspective we have swung from experts proclaiming coming ice ages to pole shifts to global warming and glaciers melting and seas rising and mankind dying (and now back to a mini-ice age?) I agree the seas are rising - they have risen over 200 meter over the past 10000 plus years. Not so much recently. I also agree that CO2 levels have increased dramatically, but the temps have not risen as forecast. There are factors involved in our climate change which cannot be explained, and I remain very interested in learning more and have a very open mind on this. But I don’t consider the science as being settled, nor do I accept the statement that all scientists agree with AGW.
