One of the best war movies (and great movie all around): Das Boot.

I’d put it as the top submarine based movie made. Better than even The Hunt for Red October.

Stalingrad could be a totally epic movie subject (or Operation Barbarossa), but that’s focused on the Soviets. The movie that was made was with Jude Law was ok (Enemy at the Gates).

If I were to get a single movie done about the Eastern Front, I’d love to see one on the battle of Smolensk (July-September, 1941) where the Russians, though losing the battle denied the Germans victory and laid the seeds of how they would stop the Germans short of Moscow and, eventually, win the war.
