Good luck teaching several semesters of science to someone whose stance is “The Bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it!”

We had a girl at the private high school where I used to teach, and her family were Southern Baptists who were wedded to the literal interpretation of Genesis. We science teachers told her and her parents she was entitled to whatever belief she wanted, but if she expected to pass our classes, she’d have to agree to learn the scientific explanation of the creation of universe, the earth and life. The girl had an especially hard time in bio, because the teacher made a point of addressing human evolution (complete with a set of skull models), but as I recall she managed to pass that unit. I doubt she accepted it, though.
