My belief is that the only way the Republican party will return to being a true functioning party is for it to lose a significant number of elections so that it can figure out that “crazy” will not win and can return conservative to “wary of things changing quickly” instead of “wanting to return to 1850.” That’s what a functioning conservative party would be.

There’s a genuine question to be asked if the GOP is even worth saving at this point. We’re a long way from Lincoln, Teddy, & Ike. The moral decay began generations ago and has only gotten worse as the desire for power overrode everything else, such that today you have a man in office who is doing things that Nixon would have envied and is getting away with them because of the cowardice and power-hunger of his party. One party is embracing the generational and demographic shift that this nation is undergoing, the other is polishing up their jackboots while humming Horst-Wessel-Lied.
