Same as the imperative to build anything else. There are lots of potential customers: Thousands of Muslims live and work near Park 51; Tens of thousands of Muslims live in Manhattan; 100,000+ in the greater NYC area.

Why shouldn’t they have the same rights to build community centers that we assume all others have—Christian, Jew, whatever?

And don’t give me the hallowed ground argument. It was a freakin coat factory.
