re: #282 lawhawk

There isn’t much else the US can do. Since the South isn’t prepared for a war, the US isn’t going to launch airstrikes on its own - that would bring reprisal attacks against South Korea directly. Sanctions are likely, even though they wont do much. Strongly worded UN letters are similarly useless and futile, but those are the options available to the US - and any US president in this situation (which has been the case since the partition of the Korean Peninsula).

A show of force with a carrier task force is about all the US can do militarily unless the South agrees to go to war or carry out attacks against the North in reprisal for the resumption of hostilities.

Any reports on whether the NK’s ceased fire at will or were hammered down by the counter battery fire? SK has some really good tracking/targeting arty. If the unit got hammered it may provide more pause than a planned attack that resulted in only minor damage from the counter fire.
