At one time, two actuaries at my company(one in the East coast, one in the Midwest) were both named Ian but with different pronunciations. Apparently the Midwest actuary was very offended when his name was pronounced incorrectly. I had occasional phone conversations with each and tried to be very careful.
I’ll sort of “out” myself here lol. My name’s John. I’ve had people: baseball coaches, fathers of friends or siblings call me Jonathan for years. I never get angry about it but it’s not you know my name.
