I think everything is becoming retro and current all at once. The radio dial is filled with successful retro bands. Look at The Sword: retro Black Sabbath-ish band. Wolfmother: Retro Zeppelin. Muse: sounds like a heavier Styx with some spaced out Rush and Floyd thrown in.. Jet: sounds like AC-DC. Avenged Sevenfold: Hair metal with some punk thrown in.

I get alot of shit about music here, and rightly so I suppose, because I’m so rigid and old fashioned…that said, 99.5% of all riffs have already been played…somebody stole it from someone before them and that was always true…that’s why I go all the way back to the beginning and have so much respect for the cats that dreamed up that stuff…you can change the sound, the beat, the attack, but nothing is original anymore, if it’s played on real instruments by real people…innovation is a hard fought commodity now days…I’m a guitar/keyboard RB guy, and don’t care much for anything that cannot be played on stage…but I like new talent and am always looking out for something fresh sounding, even tho it’s the same old riff again….kinda hard to explain I guess
