FOB is our concern. Fractional Obital Bombardment. In layman’s terms, it means that if North Korea could put an object into a stable orbit, they could potentially put a nuke into orbit and then de-orbit the nuke over the USA. Some of the concern is an EMP attack, but a direct attack on a city could also be devastating. Thus, any major rocket launch by North Korea is viewed as a threat.

EMP would be the bigger worry than a direct attack. Detonate the nuke high enough and you could wipe out an entire coast, if not the whole of the US. The military hardware, at least the most critical stuff, would be okay. But everything from banks and financial institutions to hospitals would be thrown back to the Dark Ages.
