private piloting has got sides and factions just like politics
learn in the northeast and its heavy radio, constant contact with someone, and watch your position. i was always looking for flight following even in uncontrolled airspace and was always slightly hesitant landing at a (gasp) uncontrolled airport.

learn, say in the midwest, away from a city, it’s the exact opposite. mostly free air and cooperation with the other pilots. not a lot of big brother / faa watching. and as i heard it time and again, folks like that wouldnt consider venturing into the ny/nj area -
way way too many “rules and regulations” - and that sectional map!

I flew in the 1970’s ’ 80’s. Ever see 16 Right, the documentary? Man I miss it.
