re: #308 wrenchwench

I wasn’t thinking so much about whether he’ll end up the bad guy (which I think is avoidable, but I’d save the email). I’ve heard that there’s a lot of burnout among shelter volunteers when they see clients returning to the situation from which they came. I think it’s good for people to try to help others when they can. I also think it’s good for people to be realistic about the chances that they can ‘fix’ a situation, or a person, or whatever.

Also, I’m kind of leery of what some family members see as their ‘duty’. A couple of my sisters thought it was their ‘duty’ at one time to tell me I was making a mistake in a situation they knew nothing about. Their opinion was based on their prejudices.

It’s OK to be leery of such matters, but the idea of family members duty to each other is important and is a major cornerstone of morality and society. If prejudice flaws it, then the solution is to eliminate the prejudice to repair the stone.
