There was a thread on FR the other day about the British health care system (allegedly) letting babies die and how evil that was without a word about who would be paying the bills. I’m constantly amazed that people don’t have a clue about how much it costs to keep people of all ages, who are going to die fairly soon and have a lousy quality of life in the meanwhile, alive.
I can understand why some folks want everything done, but then they have to figure out how it will be paid for.

Humans are afraid of death. It’s as simple as that. Most people have an extremely hard time coming to terms with the idea that every life ends at some point. We piss away vast sums of money every year so that people at the end of their lives can have a few more miserable months full of pain and suffering, rather than just accept the fact that their time is done.

I can only take solace in the fact that things like Do Not Resuscitate allow people that choose to accept reality to make it easier for everyone involved.
