When Bush was in charge, the muslim countries (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Syria) were far more afraid of the Iranian acquiring a nuke then a war with Israel, since they all knew that if they do- they are a danger to them just as much as they are to Israel. But now, when they all see how the US and Europe are handaling this issue, they decided that its much safer to be with Iran, then against it, cause they will get the bomb one way or another.
Thats what being soft does.

How is the current “handling” of Iran by the US and Europe any different now than it was under Bush.

Dither, dawdle, make excuses, rely on the UN. Then as now.
