racism was a huge element on the ground…it’s nothing new…the Japanese believed to be superior to everyone, and because of their relentless brutality and refusal to surrender, they were seen as animals to the Marines, freaks from another planet…most Marines had an intense hatred for the yellow horde and felt they should be exterminated in the field, and of course the Japanese allowed that to happen…no handing out smokes or chocolates
