Some do. Some don’t. We don’t actually have any good data on whether or not people get more inspired by media coverage.
For one thing, if that were true we’d expect an increase in mass killings with the spread of mass media, but we don’t have that.
We actually have a decline in mass shootings since the 1980s.

I think the chart shows the peak was the early 90s so the decline would be after that time.
Do you have a link or remember where that chart came from? I would like to see the data they used to create that plot line. It just doesn’t seem correct to me, but then I do not know what all they count as mass shootings.
