It actually makes sense if you think about it. Every kid gets a laptop, I’m guessing the cost is 150-200 bucks. That laptop will be good for maybe five years or so. Instead of giving them paper textbooks every year you can email them a PDF or give them a disk. I’ll bet in the long run it saves the school system money.
