I would put it this way - Santorum is the most successful of theocratic right wingers running for President, as far as getting followers behind him.

Palin was handed the opportunity (by McCain.) Santorum is working for it.

Which is why he’ll be the “messiah” (yes, the “anointed one” per longstanding GOP tradition :) come 2016. I begin to wonder if Heinlein wasn’t only off by 4 years…
