I might be the only person at LGF who will stick up for Bono- a man who has taken the time and effort to help the impoverished around the world. Certainly don’t think it’s any more cultural in Ireland than it would be anywhere else- it always comes down to individuals. Most people are great, some are assholes. But in trying to understand the dynamics of hatred, geography and history can and does play a role. One of my former neighbors was an Irish woman married to a Pole. I don’t think it’s a issue in Ireland that they hate Poles. I think it’s an issue of Buchanan thinking he’s a Pure Blood over Mudbloods, if I can go Harry Potter.
