Lest we also forget how much poor than the nation as a whole the South was after the Civil War. That’s why the Lost Causers are stupid. Not just that the CSA lost but that the lands that were the CSA became almost third world in comparison with the north.

They didn’t think about that except in the sense that the North was at fault for making those lands that way. It’s view that still exist today, as we all know. Sherman’s scorched-earth tactics won the Civil War, but they also produced a lingering anger that has yet to die.
