Not to go full-Howard Zinn, but the founders were deadbeats who didn’t want to pay for a war which was fought for their benefit.

I somewhat subscribe to that but I do understand why they didn’t like the British parliament imposing their taxes. Now that said, it’s nowhere near as glamarous as people make it out to be. And from what I remember from my class on the revolution, they still saw themselves as loyal British subjects well into the 1770’s. The American revolution no doubt is an important world event but it wasn’t a radical change like the French one was later. King George III also was far from the absolute monarch he’s made out to be. British monarchs ceased to be absolute monarchs long before King George III became king.
