With its appeals to traditional values, the GOP has attracted a large number of authoritarians — people who want order and who fear outsiders and the unknown.

I don’t see how the GOP is going to stuff this genie back into the magic lamp, short of a party split. The authoritarians are the ones that made John Boehner’s job as Speaker a nightmare, and if Trump loses, they will be out for blood (hopefully not literally) from the party leadership.

I’d like to know how exactly Trump reacts to a defeat. He spent a while whining about the Iowa results until he probably realised how miniscule the prize was.
But the biggest trophy of all? How does he lose that and not contest the results however one-sided they might be?
I guess then we’ll see if the whole thing was an exercise in ego-fluffing.
Would you put anything past him at that point?

We might see him imprisoned for incitement to violence yet.
