I have been to Richmond’s Iron Triangle at eleven thirty at night. Not doing that again, unless I’m accompanied by the SAS.

I also once had a (retrospectively) hilarious experience where I went for a job interview deeper into Seriously Fucking East Oakland than I had ever been. On public transit. I told the whole story to a friend not long ago, and at some point I said, “And all I can think is, if I can just get back to the Coliseum BART Station somehow, I’ll be OK,” and she says, “So what you’re telling me is that you’re somewhere where the Coliseum BART Station seemed like a beacon of safety? Where the hell WERE you?”
